Fukushima: Mutated Butterflies.

  Nature reports that the March 11, 2011, earthquake and tsunami that caused the Fukushima Dai-ichi Nuclear Power Plant in Japan to break down and release massive amounts of radioactive materials into the environment “caused physiological and genetic damage to the pale grass blue Zizeeria maha butterfly in Japan.” Above on left is normal butterfly;
on the right is a genetically damaged and mutated butterfly.  

58% of the pale grass blue butterfly population is now in the genetically damaged category.
